The NBA Season started on October 21st 2025 with the Rockets facing the Thunders and the Lakers facing the Warriors. The first two games of the season for the Los Angeles Lakers resulted in a 1-1 record for the team. Despite not winning both games, some players had very notable performances in the first two games. This includes Luka Doncic, who played his first opening game in a Lakers jersey. He shattered the record for the most points scored by a Lakers in the first two games of a season in the franchise’s history.

With Lebron James sitting out for the first few weeks of the season due to a sciatica injury, the responsibility of leading the Lakers in the Opening week became Luka Doncic’s. The Slovenian superstar dominated in his first two games. He finished the opening game against the Golden State Warriors with 43 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists for a near-triple-double performance. Despite the loss, Doncic shined in his first opening game as a Lakers.
Following his dominant performance, the Slovenian Superstar faced Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timber Wolves in the second game of the Lakers’ season. Doncic successfully led the Lakers to a 128 to 110 victory over the Timber Wolves with a jaw-dropping stat-line of 49 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists for another near-triple-double performance.
With back-to-back near-triple-double performances in his first two games, Luka Doncic has officially broken the record for the most points scored in the first two games of a season by a Lakers in franchise history. The combination of 49 and 43 points for a total of 92 points in the first two games of a season is the most by any Lakers player, surpassing the record of greats such as Kobe Bryant and Jerry West.
The most impressive part of this record is not only that it was re-written with two dominant performances, but also that this is only Luka Doncic’s first time opening his season as a Lakers. Breaking this record in his first opening games as a Lakers seems to be a promise for a dominant season and makes fans excited for what records the Slovenian superstar will break in his future with the Los Angeles Lakers.
