Bradley Beal, who reached a buyout with the Phoenix Suns after a disappointing run, agreed to join the Clippers on a two-year, $11 million deal involving a player option.

1. Clippers Tried to Trade for Beal Twice
The Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank revealed that the team attempted to trade for Bradley Beal two times in the past before signing him as a free agent, per Law Murray of The Athletic. “Third time’s the charm,” Frank said after the Clippers successfully signed the former All-Star off the Phoenix Sun’s buyout with Beal.
Frank highlighted Beal’s fit in hand-off actions and reportedly expressed his confidence in Beal’s fit offensively and defensively. Although Beal is known for being a scorer, the Clippers believe he can contribute to the Clippers defense more than most expect.
2. James Harden Recruitment
Lawrence Frank also mentioned former MVP James Harden‘s instrumental contribution in negotiating a deal with Bradley Beal. Harden reportedly took a paycut in his extension with the intent of bringing Bradley Beal to the team.
Reports say the former MVP held a personal 30-minute phone-call conversation with Bradley Beal. ESPN insider Shams Charania reported,
“I’m told James Harden was a focal point in recruiting Bradley Beal internally but also speaking directly to Beal and his camp. The Clippers really view Bradley Beal as a perfect fit alongside Kawhi Leonard and James Harden ,”
Beal’s best season came in 2021, when he averaged over 31 ppg. Last season, Beal averaged 17 ppg on 49.7% field goal percentage and 38.6% three point percentage.
