Following an outstanding seasonal performance, the 30 years old Lakers star signed a 3 year/186 million contract that will include a player option by 2027-28.

This Contract Extension will add up to his current contract to worth over 270 million in the next 5 years, one of the biggest contracts in league history.
Davis’ contract also sets a new record for the highest annual salary per year at 62 million.
Why this is a Great Deal for the Lakers
As the Lakers secures Davis to another 5 years, the Lakers are certainly looking to be competitive in the next decade. Previously, the Lakers already traded most of their draft Capitals, so it makes a lot of sense to go all in to secure their superstar. Furthermore, with Lebron James closing in on his retirement soon, this contract helps the Lakers to secure their main option for the next few years.

Last year, the Lakers star stayed one of the best defenders and big-men in the league during the playoffs by carrying the Lakers to the Western Conference Finals while averaging exceptional stats. Davis averaged 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds and nearly 3 assists on the 14th highest field goal percentage in the league while playing 56 games.
While Davis is known for being injury prone, he has actually played more games than players like Joel Embiid, Stephen Curry, or Kevin Durant since 2015-16. With this stat in mind, there are still lots of possibilities of Davis staying healthy in the future. However, there are still lots of concerns on Davis’ ability to stay healthy.
This Contract makes Davis’ contract and Lebron’s Contract worth up to 60+ percent of the Lakers salary cap in the following years.
While the Contract may seem a lot, Lakers Fans seems to be loving this deal
